I have known Mr. Helley for five years in the capacity of a karate instructor to my children and, more recently, myself. Mr. Helley conducts his karate classes in a way that excites his students, holds their attention, and motivates them to learn. His own enthusiasm for martial arts shows in his teaching and conversations.

He is not only passionate about the physical and mental components of karate, but also lives the more global teachings of martial arts outside of the karate studio. He is humble, determined, and selfless. He shows respect to everyone he meets, whether they are adults or children. He can connect with all his students and makes accommodations based on each student’s learning style and skill level.

He is knowledgeable and down to earth in his approach to teaching Tang Soo Do. The environment he creates is welcoming to everyone of all ages! Mr. Helley’s energy and enthusiasm is apparent and shows in everyone he teaches. This includes our eldest son, 11, who has been taking Tang Soo Do with Mr. Helley as an instructor for about 4 years now. In our son’s words: “Mr. Helley is awesome! I really like the way he teaches. I have learned so much!” Our 7 year old also loves learning from Mr. Helley as it is also “fun!” I can not say enough great things about Mr. Helley as an instructor of Tang Soo Do.

My kids and I have taken martial arts classes with Mr. Helley for several years now. He skillfully blends solid self-defense techniques with a great workout and all while having fun. He also instills respect, self-discipline and confidence with his teachings. This has been especially impactful for my two children. We love his family classes where we can all work out together too. Mr Helley is motivating, kind, and is a thoroughly amazing martial arts instructor!
